Where it all began.....

Hi, I'm Gav, daddy of Hendrick and Aubrey, husband to Hannah and the founder of One Simple Rule.

At One Simple Rule, we have one simple aim to provide a personal, bespoke service creating simple, handcrafted, solid wood home decor for families to cherish forever.

So where did it all begin? Hendrick was born on Christmas day 2018.  To say he turned my world upside down is a massive understatement and I absolutely love being a dad, as difficult as it is sometimes!

A year later, while we were planning for Christmas 2019, Hannah bounded through our front door full of excitement. She had seen a wooden height chart ruler at our local garden centre perfect for our little Hendrick!  I thought this was a great idea and when I saw it I could see where she was coming from - it was unique that was for sure, but it wasn't as special as I knew it could be. So (and I’m not quite sure what possessed me) I offered to make one instead. 

I wanted to make it personal to us as a family. I wanted it to be much better quality, a more natural finish and I wanted it to look like the rulers I remember using at school! Hannah agreed, so I got to work and 3 weeks later yes, 3 weeks I had made my very first ruler by hand - the original One Simple Rule. It might have been slightly wonky and a bit patchy but it was a giant personalised ruler nonetheless. Little did I know this would be the beginning of the amazing adventure it's been so far. 

And here we are. One Simple Rule Ltd has been officially launched and the feedback we have had so far has been incredible!
